6 Trends from New York Fashion Week FW24

Fashion Month has officially started!

As for tradition, Fashion Month kicked off with shows in the always buzzling New York. Over the past few days, we've enjoyed collections from designers and brands like Helmut Lang, Sandy Liang, Proenza Schouler, Couch, Tommy Hilfiger, and many others. Being the first in the schedule for the four-week fashion extravaganza, New York has unveiled the latest trends for the FW24 season, and we can't wait to share some of the highlights with you!

Sheer Must Go On!

According to the New York Fashion Week FW24 shows, sheers are still a big "Yes," and it seems like even the cooler fall temperatures aren't a challenge. From Ludovic de Saint Sernin and Eckhaus Latta to Helmut Lang and Proenza Schouler, almost every collection embraced the trend with different takes on transparent dresses, shirts, skirts, and pants. For example, Peter Do, in his sophomore release for Helmut Lang, uses unique sheer textures looking exactly like bubble-wrap. The reference was the transparent jacket from Lang’s 2003 spring show.

Fur Everything

It’s hard to imagine a fall-winter collection without fur pieces, right? But this time, furs really dominated the runway! Ulla Johnson, Khaite, LaPointe, Puppets and Puppets, Eckhaus Latta, Proenza Schouler, and many other designers and brands partaking in NYFW showcased full-on fur outfits, fur detailing, as well as fur accessories (think fur earflaps, leg warmers and furry heeled shoes!). So, if you are not planning to ditch the TikTok-famous Slavic Girl or Mob Wife aesthetics this year, absolutely do look forward to the FW24 drops.

Oversized Knits

Comfy and warm, oversized knits and chunky scarves are absolute must-haves for the colder months ahead. And the designers agree! We’ve spotted the cozy trend at Tommy Hilfiger's preppy nostalgia-filled show and Coach’s youthful, very Gen Z collection (that yellow sweater with the duck is absolutely adorable!).

Flower Garden

Over the past few days, the NYFW runway has blossomed into a beautiful flower garden with so many pieces featuring the motif. Although flowers usually scream spring and summer, designers are all about keeping that floral vibe alive even in colder times. The gentle floral motif inspired by photographer Robert Mapplethorpe's artwork was on tops, skirts, and dresses at Ludovic de Saint Sernin, while Anna Sui used the print more heavily to give her collection this vintage-y and grange-y feel.

Cape Craze

Who said only superheroes should wear capes? You can rock them too, and 2024 is the perfect time for it. The cape trend absolutely ruled the NYFW runways, taking on so many forms over the past few days. For styling inspiration, take cues from Proenza Schouler, Marina Moscone, and Prabal Gurung. Cape-style outerwear was also part of the looks at Khaite and Anna Sui.

Back 2 School

Another popular piece that we’ve spotted is pleated skirts, both mini and midi. Tommy Hilfiger, for example, paired them with oversized blazers and varsity jackets, while Sandy Liang experimented by styling mini pleated skirts over pants. Definitely a trick to try out!
